Salvador Dalí

1904–1989

A master of Surrealism from Catalonia, Spain, he depicted dreams and the unconscious as strange scenes rendered with precise realism. Melting clocks and bodies fitted with drawers, inspired by Freud's psychoanalysis, are among his signature motifs. Beyond painting, he worked in prints, sculpture, jewellery and film, and collaborated with the glass house Daum.
