Rey Camoy

1928–1985

Born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. After years in Spain and Paris, he painted those living on the margins of society, including drunkards, clowns, the elderly and wounded soldiers, in deep, heavy oils. His figures, emerging from dark backgrounds, carry a profound sense of human solitude and sorrow. He received the Yasui Prize in 1969.
