Jim Dine

b. 1935

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he came to prominence in New York in the 1960s, the era of Pop Art and Happenings. Throughout his career he has returned to familiar, personal motifs such as hearts, tools, bathrobes and the Venus de Milo, and he is also celebrated as a printmaker. Vigorous marks and layered colour give everyday motifs a deep emotional charge.
